Shrek Came Out 20 Years Ago This Year - Feel Old Yet?
You've most likely grown older in the recent year, but be ready to feel even older. Shrek has turned 20 years old. Yes, you read that correctly. In June of 2001, the beloved Ogre first appeared on our screens. 2001 was, believe it or not, 20 years ago. Wow.
Mike Meyers was supposed to play Shrek, but Chris Farley was cast instead. Farley was tragically killed in a car accident in 1997. He had already recorded 80–95 percent of his talk before he died!
Nicholas Cage was approached about playing Shrek, but he declined. "I just didn't want to appear like an ogre," Cage replied when asked why he turned it down.
Mike Meyers gave Shrek a Canadian accent at first before switching to the classic Scottish accent.
However, Shrek isn't the only film to celebrate its 20th anniversary. Here are a few more classic films that are celebrating their 20th anniversary this year.
The Philosopher's Stone (Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone)
How is it that this is already 20 years old?! Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, in which he discovers he is a wizard and defeats he-who-must-not-be-named (again), was released two decades ago. To be fair, Rupert Grint just had a baby with the chick from Angus, Thongs, and Perfect Snogging, so the age of the first Potter film isn't all that shocking. They all appear to be in their late twenties!

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the ultimate British rom-com, which stars the very American Renée Zellweger. It first aired on April 4, 2001, and was a big success. Even though this video was produced 20 years ago, it is still as relevant today as it was then - however, indoor smoking seems strange to watch now. Bridget, on the other hand, is still very much a vibe.

Oh, my goodness, you guys! Isn't this movie 20 years old? That you're so ancient that bending and snapping have taken on a whole new meaning for you. This very pink, very feel-good picture, starring Reese Witherspoon as Elle Woods, is older than Billie Eilish. I'm sure this makes you feel old, but don't worry – your favorite Gemini vegetarian is returning to the big screen, with Legally Blonde 3 set to release in May 2022.

The Buttskins are a crazy author family who love writing, laughter, and eating an unhealthy amount of junk food. Mom Rockita started scribbling stories as soon as she could hold a pen, and Dad John didn't realize authoring children's books was a real job until after they were married.
Their kids have embraced storytelling at an early age. Little Lucy, age 5, dictates her colorful tales about dragons and princesses to her parents. Her 8-year old brother Jake collects scraps of paper to diagram his latest imaginary adventure involving ninjas and dinosaurs.
